Gem Knots with Vitruvian Art!

Hi everyone! Welcome to The Tireless Tangler! This week is crazy busy preparing for challenges and with this week’s final video in the March Celtic Knot Series! I have something really exciting for you this week! You may have seen my posts on extraordinary gem artist, Amanda Rose Rambo, and her techniques for creating realistic and fantastic gems using colored pencils or watercolor. This week we are meshing my Celtic Knots with Amanda’s amazing gems for a video collaboration.

Three weeks ago, I sent Amanda a copy of my heart knot video so she could give me some feedback. She came back excited, saying she’d never been able to draw knotwork and was intimdated by them, but she thought she could do the knot. A few minutes later she sent me this beauty!

For me, this is why I am making the videos. To see my tutorials used to demystify the knot process is so fulfilling for me!

That’s why, for this week’s video, Amanda and I have done a video collaboration for the gem enthusiasts out there! Part one is a new knot video. We’ll be doing a star shaped knot. Part 2 will be Amanda’s gem tutorial. I can’t wait to bring Knots to her audience and her amazing gems to mine! Be sure to come back tomorrow for our videos!

Also this week, I’m preparing to join the #100daysproject! This project is meant to inspire and strengthen creativity by committing to 10 to 15 minutes a day of focused creativity. I’ve wanted to participle for a couple of years now but worry about my staying power! For this year’s project I’m planning a knot based idea I saw on pinterest. I’m planning to create a knot with 100 sections filling them in with different tangles each day. The goal being to become more familiar with existing tangles as well as learning new ones. I am hoping to involve those of you who’d like to follow along! I’ll have another post and video coming out Sunday and the project will begin on Monday, April 1, 2019. No fooling! 😀 look for the hashtag #100daysproject, #100daysofzentangle. See you on Friday for the knot/collaboration!

Zentangle ® Project Pack 04 and Diva Challenge 378

Hi everyone! I’m still running behind with my challenges, but for some reason this week, I’m driven! I’ve even been back on Facebook for the first time in months! I don’t know why but I’ve gone from no desire at all to create, to a rabid fanatical! LOL!!!

I’ve been truly enjoying the new Project Pack 04 from Zentangle HQ for the “12 days of Zentangle” this month. In years past, the work was so intimidating I wasn’t able to keep up the pace, but the project this year is actually so zenful and relaxing that I’ve been checking my email for the next lesson everyday often and eagerly! I was lucky enough to get my project pack while I was at CZT32 training in October and it is something brand new and awesome! I want to tell you though, you don’t need the project pack to follow along with the lessons. Those are freely given and can be found on YouTube or you can watch them right here! Even if you use the videos to make regular tiles, it is worth working through them. Having fun, relaxing while doing the lessons with Rick, Maria, Martha and Molly is a real gift. They are just as wonderful in person as they are on the videos! Give it a try! Project Pack 04 is something brand new and will be a great teaching tool for CZTs but also can be made into a fun tangle game when you meet up with other tanglers. The paper is Opus tile size, original tile paper, with a hole in the middle for a little spinner. Each day for 12 days, we are filling in a pie piece (don’t ask why I’m thinking pie!) with simple original tangles. It is SO relaxing and fun. Relaxing in the holiday season is a gift as well!

Here are my day one and day two pictures. In the preparation video we did the watercolor portion. Of course, I went a bit nuts with mine but I gotta do me!

Here are the first 3 videos in order with the preparation day video first, followed by day one and day two. I hope you enjoy them as much as I am!

Day Two

Last but certainly not least is Diva Challenge 378! This is a UMT or “use my tangle” week and we are exploring a lovely border style tangle by CZT Antonine Koval. It’s named 123 O’Leary. It’s very easy to understand but for me I needed some practice before I finally got it to flow well. You can find Antonine’s step out here. Here’s my tile.

It’s a String Thing #255

Welcome everyone! It’s been 2 weeks since my last post. Unfortunately, I’m struggling hard with depression. I’ve been drawing and creating but unable to write. Last week’s challenge sat unfinished and I was never able to complete it. So, I was determined to finish this week and hit back. Thank goodness for tangling!

This week’s challenge was a mix of struggle and sublime as we were given a grid pattern, Flog, by Angie Gittles, CZT, and the organic Konk, by Lori Manoogian, CZT. Naturally, given my affinity for the organic, I loved Konk and struggled with Flog. I decided to incorporate Flog into the embellishments and voilà! I used a technique from gem queen, Amanda Rose Rambo, @vitruvianart, with the orbs incorporating Derwent Inktense for the dappled effects. Then, because of Lori Manoogian’s explanation published on TanglePatterns.com, with a picture of a Conch shell, I had beaches on the mind and gave the background a golden brown sand color. Strange how the mind translates input! As always, you can join the challenge at Adele Bruno’s blog, Tickledtotangle.blogspot.com. Here’s my tile!

I am forced to share now that I don’t believe I will achieve my financial goal in time to attend CZT 32 in October. The deadline for my final payment is August 26th, just 2 weeks away. To say I’m discouraged is a huge understatement. I’ll be contacting Zentangle ®, Inc this week about what options I might have for next year. I will also be contacting my donors individually with an update. I cannot express my gratitude for all who offered either financial or emotional support! I am so close but I don’t have the ability to make up the balance. It’s a frustrating situation but I will come through stronger than ever. The campaign will run up to August 25th.

Zentangle ® Project Pack 3

Hi everyone! There seems to be no Diva Challenge again this week. I’m hoping they are enjoying a vacation and that no one is sick! I’m sure we will see her back again soon!

In the meantime, Zentangle ® brought us Project Pack 3 (https://zentangle.com/collections/project-packs/products/zentangle-project-pack-no-03) this weekend and I’m so excited to share it with you all.

I happened to have the necessary supplies for this project and didn’t need to buy the pack.

Each video is short and brings great new insights to existing tangles. I love these videos. I’ll be doing another mosaic on Renaissance tiles.

Here is my mosaic followed by links for each of the 9 videos! I hope you enjoy them as much as I!

Also, I received my welcome kit for CZT 32! I’ve paid in $745.00 already and need to raise the final payment of $750.00 by August 28, 2018. Thanks again for all your support! 🌸 My fundraising efforts will need to increase for the next 2 months, please be patient! I will try hard not to spam everyone! Here are some pictures of my welcome package!

It’s a String Thing 243

Welcome back to thetirelesstangler.com! It’s time for this week’s It’s a String Thing challenge! This week, Adele Bruno has joined the “Zenbutton” craze! It was the perfect excuse to indulge myself in a couple. They are addictive and a bit more challenging, at least for me, than I expected. I’ve started no less than 6! Here are 2 I’ve finished. I’ll be drawing these for awhile!

If you’d like to join Adele’s String Thing challenge you can find more information on her blog here.

If you’d like to learn more about Zenbuttons check out Marguerite Samama’s article published on TanglePatterns.com.

I’ll see you all on Tuesday for the Diva Challenge! Thank you everyone for your support of my gofundme campaign! Today I’m halfway to my goal! After getting additional information, I’m ready to book my flight! How wonderful it has been to be validated by you, fellow artists and friends! A big thanks to my brother as well, for his generous donation!

Diva Challenge 363 and Pattern Tutorial “Circe”

Hi everyone and welcome to the Tireless Tangler! It is time for our weekly Diva Challenge and I have a new pattern tutorial on “Circe” by Staub Korn.

This week, the Diva challenges us to “aura”. Auras are simple ways to enhance tangles by simple adding new lines inside or outside that match, which adds interest. This week I chose a ZenGem and stuck with simple lines and orbs.

I have fallen in love with the pattern Circe by Staub Korn! It’s good that I liked it so much because it took me some time to figure it out! I wanted to reproduce it so my motivation was high! Here are 2 tiles from the videos.

I used these supplies for the video:

Zentangle ® Renaissance tile with https://zentangle.com/collections/square-paper-tiles/products/square-tiles-renaissance

Pigma Micron 01 brown https://amzn.to/2rHQG8D

Crayola Super Tips water based markers https://amzn.to/2rHPTEH

Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils https://amzn.to/2Gg76d3.

Finally, my diva challenge post was quite late last week, so I wanted to share this again and let you all know how blessed I am to be a part of a community that is so encouraging and supportive! In less than one week, I’m almost halfway to my $2250.00 goal! I really believe my dream of becoming a CZT is going to come true! Each of you that donated and supported me, I am truly grateful for the validation of what I want to accomplish! You help me feel worthy! Thank you! It’s A String Thing #238

Adele Bruno (Tickledtotangle.blogspot.com), has issued her “it’s a string thing” challenge for this week and featured her new Tangle, “Mack”. The new grid-based pattern is fun to play with and has lots of embellishment possibilities. Needless to say, I had to do 2 tiles! Congratulations, Adele, on a wonderful new Tangle!

Diva Challenge 355 and the New Kitchen Table Tangle!

Welcome to The Tireless Tangler! It’s time for this week’s Diva Challenge and Laura, the Diva herself, challenged us to use the Tangle “Verve”, deconstructed by JJ LaBarbera. The step out is here on JJ’s blog, TinkerTangles.

I enjoyed Verve, although I’d never used it before, it was easy and fun to use and I suspect it will show up often now! Here are 2 tiles with Verve 😊

Next, I’m so excited to be able to bring you these videos now! Kitchen Table Tangles is absolutely one of my favorite things in this life! It’s basically a personal Zentangle lesson from Zentangle® founders Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas! It’s always about basic Zentangle values and basic tangles with a new flair or a new idea woven into them. Today Zentangle ® Mosaic released this new video on YouTube called “Articulated Molygon”. Enjoy this new version of molygon and I’m excited to see everyone’s art! #articulatedmolygon

New Brand, YouTube and an Inktense Gem Tutorial

It’s a great new year! I’ve had a lot happening behind the scenes and time off with my family. First and most importantly for me was the gracious gift from the incredible digital artist Christel Foncke, allowing me to use one of her beautiful pieces of art to brand this website and all it’s social media sites. This incredible piece of art is just a hint of what Christel can do with her Apple Pencil! I will have her Artist Focus soon! Thank you, Christel! I can stop worrying about it now and I love it as much today as I did the day I added it! Follow Christel at @Christeldraws on Instagram.

I have been in “school” at the YouTube Creator’s Academy because I’m slowly changing the format for this blog to include video. The more artists I focus on, the more I want to spotlight their work using video. Since my next artist in focus will be the incredibly talented Tomàs Padrós, I wanted to be sure I spent time learning to edit video, add audio and learn about copyright laws. I’ve been absorbing a lot of information and I needed to practice. This move was much more complex and involved much more time studying and practicing than I anticipated! I practiced by FINALLY doing the Inktense Pencil gem tutorial for which I’ve been trying to find the time about 6 months! So, I present my Derwent Inktense Gem Tutorial Part 1, which involves laying down and activating the Inktense bottom layer as well as 6 of my favorite color combinations. It features a traveling tangle tile with Amanda Rose Rambo, the “Gem Queen”, and myself. She has a great YouTube channel at Vitruvianart. Her content on creating gems is outstanding! So check her out! I’ve done two posts on her work if you’re interested (ZenGems: Meet Amanda Rose Rambo!, and Amanda Rose Rambo, Faceted Gem Master Class)

When I finished the first video, I uploaded it to “Gem Ho’s” the FaceBook group for Amanda’s VitruvianArt. They gave me some great feedback which I then used to make a part 1.5 which includes a complete gem using the new highlight technique I developed based on the feedback of the group. I would very much appreciate any feedback, positive or not. If you like the video please remember to like or comment and subscribe to my channel! It is pretty empty now but I have plans for it! I will be remaking the artist focus videos (with their permission) and uploading them both here and YouTube. I’ll be adding my pattern videos and anything else that seems interesting. My goal is to make each one better than the last! I need your help my friends! Give me honest feedback and comments. I can work on my accent if it’s too annoying but not if you don’t tell me it’s making you crazy! Thank you so much for all your support last year and Happy 2018!

Please remember to like, comment and subscribe!

Diva Challenge #334

The Diva was back in action this week using one my favorite tangles, N’Zeppel. Diva, Laura Harms at Iamthedivaczt.blogspot.com, was back live on Twitch Monday morning and I was lucky enough to finally catch her broadcast. Laura is great and relaxed on the feed, adding coffee and her playlist as she tangles. I enjoyed it and she inspired me to try something I never wanted to do, namely, color black the small areas between the stones (in my case). I like the way the webbed area looks, so I’ve never filled it before. For the colored stones, done with Prismacolor Premier pencils, i liked the black to emphasize the depth between. Check out the link to the Diva’s site and find links to the pattern step-out as well as a great video by Molly Hollibaugh, CZT and daughter of Maria Thomas. Molly’s a great artist and I love the video. (I highly recommend everyone try out one of the many videos out there done by Rick Roberts, Maria Thomas, founders of the Zentangle ® Method, or one with Molly. They have a way of teaching that is second to none, If you want to truly experience a Zentangle experience, check out their videos. A few can be found on YouTube. Look for Kitchen Table Tangles. These are great videos.)

Sorry, I digress! Here’s my diva challenge tile for #334. There’s an extra at the bottom because I’d already done one from Molly’s video the day before the Diva’s challenge and I LOVE N’Zeppel!

This includes the patterns Pixioze, and Eni Oken’s twisted ropes.

Thank you for stopping by! See you all next week.
