Zentangle ®️ Project Pack 05 with IAST 287

Welcome to The Tireless Tangler everyone! This has been an incredibly busy week with the continuation of my 100 days of Zentangle project (we’re up to day 13 with daily pattern videos), the start of the Zentangle ® Project Pack 05, and It’s a String Thing challenge 287! I’m exhausted just listing it all! It has been so gratifying to have so many artists join the project! I hope you all have seen some of the other’s work on Facebook and Instagram! This week’s It’s a String Thing challenge was Easter themed and used an egg shaped string and 3 great tangles. Hemp by CZT, Sandy Steen Bartholomew , Queen B by CZT, Helen Williams, Henna Drum by CZT, Jane MacKugler. I loved playing with all 3 tangles and though the outcome was darker than I intended, it’s still a fun tile! You can join the It’s a String Thing challenge at Adele Bruno’s blog Tickled to Tangle!

Lastly, this week brought the start of Zentangle ® Project Pack 05. This project centers around decorative matting techniques for keepsakes and photos. The first 2 days and the prep video were released this weekend, leaving us with lots of creative pursuits with which to immerse ourselves. I’ve linked the first 3 videos here for you! You absolutely don’t need the project pack to participate! Good quality cardstock or hot press watercolor paper will work as well.

It’s a String Thing 286

Adele Bruno at Tickledtotangle.blogspot.com presented us with a String this week reminiscent of a basketball court. A nod to a hoops saturated March madness. You can check out it’s a String Thing 286 string here. This week’s 3 tangles are great. Mr. E by CZT, Shawn Hayden, Tunnelvizion by CZT, Jody Genovese, and Scape by CZT, Angie Gittles. I enjoyed all 3 tangles but I will admit falling in love (and laugh) with Jody’s wonderful Tunnelvizion! We used it for today’s #the100dayproject prompt and I’m laughing out loud while shooting my step out video this morning! It is so cute! I can’t help comparing the “faces” to Emoballs, the pattern by Tomàs Padrós. I snuck some into my tile. I think they are from the same whimsical place! I put my laughing video link down below, in case you are interested! 😂

On a final note, I’ve been asked if I could provide a printable template for my #100daysofzentangle Celtic knot. I’m working on a digital copy you can print now, and I hope I can link that by tomorrow. Thanks for your patience!

Diva Challenge 363 and Pattern Tutorial “Circe”

Hi everyone and welcome to the Tireless Tangler! It is time for our weekly Diva Challenge and I have a new pattern tutorial on “Circe” by Staub Korn.

This week, the Diva challenges us to “aura”. Auras are simple ways to enhance tangles by simple adding new lines inside or outside that match, which adds interest. This week I chose a ZenGem and stuck with simple lines and orbs.

I have fallen in love with the pattern Circe by Staub Korn! It’s good that I liked it so much because it took me some time to figure it out! I wanted to reproduce it so my motivation was high! Here are 2 tiles from the videos.

It’s A String Thing #238

Adele Bruno (Tickledtotangle.blogspot.com), has issued her “it’s a string thing” challenge for this week and featured her new Tangle, “Mack”. The new grid-based pattern is fun to play with and has lots of embellishment possibilities. Needless to say, I had to do 2 tiles! Congratulations, Adele, on a wonderful new Tangle!

Diva Challenge 359

This week’s challenge from CZT, Laura Harms, was to use our fingers as a guide for the string. You can join in at the Diva’s website, iamthedivaczt.com.

I actually thought this was going to be an easy challenge but for some strange reason, I couldn’t find just the “right” tangles. I drew the string 3 times and I’ll show you 2 of them. I felt pretty “meh” about them, but finished anyway. Here they are.

Lastly, I have a new step-out video for my first pattern, Apcorg. It includes a digitally drawn step-out and a hand drawn example of Apcorg in a 4 square setup, perfect for a focal point. I hope you enjoy!

Diva Challenge 358 “Pickpocket” by Tomàs Padrós

Hey Y’all, this is Cyndee and I’m the Tireless Tangler! It is time for this week’s Diva Challenge number 358. This week, the diva has challenged us to use Pickpocket, a pattern by Tomàs Padrós. You may remember that I published an artist focus article on Tomàs in January, sharing his life, his art, and his journey into Zentangle! You can find the link for the artist focus below and it might give you a new perspective on Tomàs and his patterns. Tomàs is a fairly recent Tangler starting around the same time as I did two years ago.

I thoroughly enjoyed meeting Tomàs’ Pickpocket pattern. We had to play around a bit to get an enjoyable result, however, now we have made friends, this pattern has become one of my go-tos for tangling. Grid patterns have never been my best thing, but I managed to make friends with Pickpocket and put my own spin on it. Now it’s become an instant favorite. I will never produce the perfect lines and spaces that Thomas is able to produce. He is an incredible artist and a skilled teacher. I’m learning that it’s not about a competition, it’s about the process and the sharing the joy in the creativity of art! I made a short video demonstrating the part I struggled with and how I made it work. Probably easy for most but I’ve learned if I struggled then someone else might have as well.

As I couldn’t stop drawing pickpocket, I have many tiles to share! Also, don’t miss the YouTube video featuring Tomàs’ art with a flavor of his taste in music. With music, we were muy simpático!

Diva Challenge Tile 353 – Heart Zendala

Hello and welcome back to the weekly Diva Challenge! This week is the last of the February heart strings and we were challenged to use a heart string on a zendala tile. I didn’t have one, so I cut one from a stiff A4 envelope. Since I have been working with celtic Knots a lot lately, it didn’t surprise me that a heart shaped celtic knot appeared as my string!

It’s a String Thing Challenge 231 with Eni Oken’s Blue Sky

I’m finally caught up enough to do the It’s a String Thing challenge this week! Luckily, Eni Oken released a new Blue Sun video lesson the day after the challenge came out and they dovetailed perfectly! Here’s the string with inspiration from the Olympics. The 3 tangles were Golven ( G for gold), Sand Swirl (S for silver) and Barney ( B for Bronze). I’m not sure my tile kept the idea of the Olympics or not but the string was perfect for the Blue Sun lesson from Eni Oken! I used a Bristol vellum tile and a mixture colored pencil and Sakura Pigma Micron and Sakura gelly roll Moonlights. It’s another great lesson for Art Club!

I haven’t been very plugged into Facebook lately, mostly due to behind the scenes work on a new Freeform Celtic Knot Tutorial. It’s almost ready and will include a free pdf with extra Knot configurations! I’m pretty excited to teach it as it has quickly turned very zenful to draw for me. Be sure to check back soon!

Diva Challenge 352

Welcome back! It’s time for the weekly diva challenge and I’m grateful to have it finished early this week! In keeping with her heart “strings” in February, the Diva challenged us to used nested hearts this week. Basically, one heart string inside another heart string. The challenge flowed easily this week and here is my tile. The pattern on the heart is Lily Moon’s Drogon. This has been a “go-to” tangle for me for quite some time and I use it constantly! On the hollibaugh stripes is a half shattuck, and 2 variations on my Marito pattern. I finished off with Printemps, Apcross (Step-out in the menu above), and a background pattern I learned from one of Eni Oken’s lessons (Treasure Frames I believe).

New Pattern: Marito

Two months ago as I was playing with the pattern Trefoil, it occurred to me to try and make the triangular framework into more of a curved ribbon style. The day before I’d seen CZT, Suzanne McNeill’s pattern Wavy Border on Pinterest and somehow that experimentation plus the Wavy Border visual became my new pattern, Marito. It is a nickname for my little boy who was very much on my mind while I was working that day. While Marito has a similar look to Wavy Border, it’s a different process as well as having many ways to vary the look. Marito has 2 versions, one using a more triangular shape and one that is rounded. It is great for borders as it allows for a wide variety of embellishment possibilities. I love it particularly for gem borders. It can be as simple or fancy as you want. A special thanks to Amanda Rose Rambo for contributing the feature image!
