Diva Challenge 362 and CZT 32!

The Diva Challenge this week took an interesting turn when I applied Eni Oken’s Tangle Enhancers Card Game. The Diva, Laura Harms, challenged us this week to “Use My Tangle” with her pattern “Somnee”. Somnee is a similar pattern to Zentangle’s “Hollibaugh” and I needed some inspiration to dress it up a bit. I used Copic markers for color, and Prismacolor Pencils for shading. Luckily, I have Eni Oken’s new card game, “Art and Tangle Game“! This game is designed to guide creativity when you’re not sure what direction to take and it worked! I chose 3 Tangle Enhancers. Line weight and rounding, fancy border and color a lá line interrupted. If you struggle sometimes knowing what to do next, I highly recommend Eni’s card game. You can find it here!

And here’s my finished tile!

One last thing I want to share with you this week! I have been given the opportunity to attend CZT 32 (Certified Zentangle Teacher training) in October! I’m so excited about this opportunity! Unfortunately, I have to now raise $2250.00 to pay for the trip! Because I live on disability, and am a single parent, raising that much money is a challenge!

This last week, Eni Oken suggested I start a gofundme campaign. Eni generously donated herself, but then went above and beyond by sharing the campaign in her Shading Fearlessly group. In one day, I’d raised more than $500.00! My secret passion for becoming a CZT changed from a distant hope to confidence as I sent $500.00 to Zentangle, Inc, yesterday! My deepest gratitude goes out to all the people who have donated! A very special thanks to Eni Oken for giving me the confidence to create and promote the campaign! As of this post, I’ve raised $655.00!

Could you help me reach this goal?

Diva Challenge 360 “Duotangle”

Today’s Diva Challenge, issued by CZT, Laura Harms, was to use a “Duotangle” consisting of the tangles “Tripoli”, and “Shattuck”. I use both of these a lot, so I applied myself using one of my “tan treasure tiles” made with Eni Oken’s parchment paper technique on a Zentangle ® Renaissance tile. It was perfect until I added the white gelly roll and a third Tangle appeared. I think it’s a version of hypnotic. So, I missed the Duotangle aspect completely but I still like the tile! 😉

Finally, for your enjoyment, a new Kitchen Table Tangles video! This is a Cadent Tangleation and honestly, I’m still working on it! Rick Roberts drawing is always a pleasure to watch!

It’s A String Thing #238

Adele Bruno (Tickledtotangle.blogspot.com), has issued her “it’s a string thing” challenge for this week and featured her new Tangle, “Mack”. The new grid-based pattern is fun to play with and has lots of embellishment possibilities. Needless to say, I had to do 2 tiles! Congratulations, Adele, on a wonderful new Tangle!

It’s a String Thing Challenge 237

Tickledtotangle.com’s Adele Bruno released challenge #237 last Tuesday with 2 new tangles by Tabitha Bedoukian, a longtime participant of the “it’s a string thing” challenge.

Kalakané

KaBoom

These are easy patterns to learn and leave lots of room for embellishment! I enjoyed drawing both and I plan on working more with both (KaBoom is my favorite but don’t tell!). I’d love to have you all join us in the IAST challenge. Start here at Tickledtotangle.blogspot.com!

Diva Challenge 358 “Pickpocket” by Tomàs Padrós

Hey Y’all, this is Cyndee and I’m the Tireless Tangler! It is time for this week’s Diva Challenge number 358. This week, the diva has challenged us to use Pickpocket, a pattern by Tomàs Padrós. You may remember that I published an artist focus article on Tomàs in January, sharing his life, his art, and his journey into Zentangle! You can find the link for the artist focus below and it might give you a new perspective on Tomàs and his patterns. Tomàs is a fairly recent Tangler starting around the same time as I did two years ago.

Artist Focus Tomàs Padrós

I thoroughly enjoyed meeting Tomàs’ Pickpocket pattern. We had to play around a bit to get an enjoyable result, however, now we have made friends, this pattern has become one of my go-tos for tangling. Grid patterns have never been my best thing, but I managed to make friends with Pickpocket and put my own spin on it. Now it’s become an instant favorite. I will never produce the perfect lines and spaces that Thomas is able to produce. He is an incredible artist and a skilled teacher. I’m learning that it’s not about a competition, it’s about the process and the sharing the joy in the creativity of art! I made a short video demonstrating the part I struggled with and how I made it work. Probably easy for most but I’ve learned if I struggled then someone else might have as well.

As I couldn’t stop drawing pickpocket, I have many tiles to share! Also, don’t miss the YouTube video featuring Tomàs’ art with a flavor of his taste in music. With music, we were muy simpático!

You can find Tomàs on Instagram @tomas_padros, where he shares his wonderful patterns with everyone!

Artist Focus: May Wu

Last week, I was browsing one of our wonderful Zentangle® Facebook groups, and I came across an amazing piece of art! As I’ve been waiting for some artists for the focus, I thought I’d check out her Facebook page and this is what I found!

Incredible! Right?! This week we have another artist from Taiwan, CZT22, May Wu! She is in the city of Kaohsiung, and with respect to her, I’ll post the Mandarin first and then the English. I am thrilled to feature her here on The Tireless Tangler, and although this post is shorter than most, May is preparing to publish a book with her art included and we didn’t want to give away too much of her work! I’ll be excited to see it when it’s published as her art is stunning and I would love to learn her methodology!

Here is May in her own words.

“May Wu ( Kaohsiung, Taiwan)

It was purely by coincidence that I discovered Zentangle. As a career jewelry designer, I was looking for inspirations in a bookstore when a book on Zentangle drew my attention; Simple yet elegant, illogical but beautiful, the illustrations opened a new world for me. I have never looked back since.

As a professional Jewelry Appraiser and Designer, I am always looking to be precise and accurate. The freedom that Zentangle gives me is liberating. I love how easy it is to express yourself through the art form and how accessible this art is to the masses. As long as one is focused on the moment, anyone can create a masterpiece.

Three years after the fateful discovery, I was certified in April 2016 in Providence, Rhode Island during CZT22. My passion has taken me across the oceans and I am forever appreciative of Rick and Maria for showing me the way.

Now, even though I am still a Jewelry Designer/Appraiser, I have found joy in introducing Zentangle to the public, and I teach and share my joy in my corner of the world, in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan.

I tend to bring my knowledge from Jewelry design into my artwork, and I apply the Zentangle method in ZIA along with the unique way I draw my gems. It is a style that defines me, and I really love to explore what I can create. The style reflects who I am and my professional training.

Everyone can create art, and Zentangle gives me a tool to do that together with my students. It is gratifying to see people brimming with joy and satisfaction from what they have created. I hope to bring more beauty into the world we live in, one Zentangle at a time.

You can find me on [ @maywuzentangle ] or [ fb.me/maywuzentangle]. I am working on a book which will detail my methodology and feature some of my best works, so stay tuned!”

Diva Challenge 356

Welcome back to thetirelesstangler.com! Before we start the challenge tiles I’m excited to let you know about the new Artist Focus out tomorrow on Taiwan’s May Wu! She is amazing and I can’t wait to share some of her art with you all!

The Diva Challenge this week was to use our name as a String! How much fun! If you’d like to join the Diva Challenge each week, you can find Diva, Laura Harms, here on her blog at iamthedivaczt.com. Of course, my crazy perfectionist streak was alive and well so I took 2 tries this week. While I’m not really pleased with either, I did find a few good things to like on each tile. Here they are! Can you tell which one I took at night!? 😂

Diva Challenge 355 and the New Kitchen Table Tangle!

Welcome to The Tireless Tangler! It’s time for this week’s Diva Challenge and Laura, the Diva herself, challenged us to use the Tangle “Verve”, deconstructed by JJ LaBarbera. The step out is here on JJ’s blog, TinkerTangles.

I enjoyed Verve, although I’d never used it before, it was easy and fun to use and I suspect it will show up often now! Here are 2 tiles with Verve 😊

Next, I’m so excited to be able to bring you these videos now! Kitchen Table Tangles is absolutely one of my favorite things in this life! It’s basically a personal Zentangle lesson from Zentangle® founders Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas! It’s always about basic Zentangle values and basic tangles with a new flair or a new idea woven into them. Today Zentangle ® Mosaic released this new video on YouTube called “Articulated Molygon”. Enjoy this new version of molygon and I’m excited to see everyone’s art! #articulatedmolygon

Diva Challenge Tile 353 – Heart Zendala

Hello and welcome back to the weekly Diva Challenge! This week is the last of the February heart strings and we were challenged to use a heart string on a zendala tile. I didn’t have one, so I cut one from a stiff A4 envelope. Since I have been working with celtic Knots a lot lately, it didn’t surprise me that a heart shaped celtic knot appeared as my string!

Here’s my Challenge Tile 353! Happy Tangling!
