Hi everyone! There seems to be no Diva Challenge again this week. I’m hoping they are enjoying a vacation and that no one is sick! I’m sure we will see her back again soon!
I happened to have the necessary supplies for this project and didn’t need to buy the pack.
I used 9 standard 3.5″ square Zentangle ® tiles (you can use other tiles but since it requires a bit of water, the original Zentangle ® Tiles are perfect. (https://amzn.to/2y8Wy0j) Hot press watercolor paper (5×7 can be cut to 3.5″, 4″, or even 5×5 if you like! https://amzn.to/2sTyyJC) Zentangle Apprentice Tiles (https://amzn.to/2JA8vBy) and Strathmore Bristol Vellum tiles will also work.)
Each video is short and brings great new insights to existing tangles. I love these videos. I’ll be doing another mosaic on Renaissance tiles.

Hey Y’all! Welcome back to the Tireless Tangler! I’m crazy late this week with everything! My son successfully (yay!!) completed 2nd grade with a stellar performance in his school musical as Derio the pig! This was his first ever performance and first speaking part and he did awesome! He has also achieved his Kung Fu green belt, and started his sparring classes this week! That boy was obsessed with his new mouthguard! I guess that’s the boy version of ballerina slippers? 😂 I was SO proud of this young man who has overcome so much and is beginning to shine! Congratulations my little man! I’m so proud of you!
During the chaos of the end of school, I’ve still been creating like a mad woman, I just haven’t had the time to write and post like I should! The other incredible thing is that my gofundme for my trip to CZT 32 has reached the halfway point! What an amazing group of people you all are! Thank you, not only for the donations but for those who couldn’t donate but still sent me messages of support! I’m energized by the knowledge that this will happen and I’m totally stoked! There will be an upcoming post on what is going on with CZT 32!
On to this week’s Diva Challenge! This week, we were challenged to “remake a classic”. Basically, take a tile from the past and do a new version. Check out the Diva’s post here!

Because I was late this week, here’s my tile for “It’s a String Thing” 244. This week we revisited the Zentangle ® Original Tangle AuraKnot with a simple star shaped string. I embellished this to leave an “A” stand out in honor of Adele’s name! A happy accident!
I didn’t get my Celtic Cross video ready in time but expect a new tutorial up on Tuesday (God Willing! Summer is busy!)
The Diva Challenge this week took an interesting turn when I applied Eni Oken’s Tangle Enhancers Card Game. The Diva, Laura Harms, challenged us this week to “Use My Tangle” with her pattern “Somnee”. Somnee is a similar pattern to Zentangle’s “Hollibaugh” and I needed some inspiration to dress it up a bit. I used Copic markers for color, and Prismacolor Pencils for shading. Luckily, I have Eni Oken’s new card game, “Art and Tangle Game“! This game is designed to guide creativity when you’re not sure what direction to take and it worked! I chose 3 Tangle Enhancers. Line weight and rounding, fancy border and color a lá line interrupted. If you struggle sometimes knowing what to do next, I highly recommend Eni’s card game. You can find it here!

One last thing I want to share with you this week! I have been given the opportunity to attend CZT 32 (Certified Zentangle Teacher training) in October! I’m so excited about this opportunity! Unfortunately, I have to now raise $2250.00 to pay for the trip! Because I live on disability, and am a single parent, raising that much money is a challenge!
This last week, Eni Oken suggested I start a gofundme campaign. Eni generously donated herself, but then went above and beyond by sharing the campaign in her Shading Fearlessly group. In one day, I’d raised more than $500.00! My secret passion for becoming a CZT changed from a distant hope to confidence as I sent $500.00 to Zentangle, Inc, yesterday! My deepest gratitude goes out to all the people who have donated! A very special thanks to Eni Oken for giving me the confidence to create and promote the campaign! As of this post, I’ve raised $655.00!

I loved this week’s challenge because I got to revisit an old favorite in “Mumsy” by Sandy Bartholomew, CZT, and a new favorite, Caracole by Lily Moon. I enjoyed it so much, I have 2 tiles to share this week. A very zenful challenge!
Today’s Diva Challenge, issued by CZT, Laura Harms, was to use a “Duotangle” consisting of the tangles “Tripoli”, and “Shattuck”. I use both of these a lot, so I applied myself using one of my “tan treasure tiles” made with Eni Oken’s parchment paper technique on a Zentangle ® Renaissance tile. It was perfect until I added the white gelly roll and a third Tangle appeared. I think it’s a version of hypnotic. So, I missed the Duotangle aspect completely but I still like the tile! 😉
Finally, for your enjoyment, a new Kitchen Table Tangles video! This is a Cadent Tangleation and honestly, I’m still working on it! Rick Roberts drawing is always a pleasure to watch!
Adele Bruno (Tickledtotangle.blogspot.com), has issued her “it’s a string thing” challenge for this week and featured her new Tangle, “Mack”. The new grid-based pattern is fun to play with and has lots of embellishment possibilities. Needless to say, I had to do 2 tiles! Congratulations, Adele, on a wonderful new Tangle!

I actually thought this was going to be an easy challenge but for some strange reason, I couldn’t find just the “right” tangles. I drew the string 3 times and I’ll show you 2 of them. I felt pretty “meh” about them, but finished anyway. Here they are.
Lastly, I have a new step-out video for my first pattern, Apcorg. It includes a digitally drawn step-out and a hand drawn example of Apcorg in a 4 square setup, perfect for a focal point. I hope you enjoy!
I’ve finally managed to get my IAST 236 tile both finished, and submitted to Adele Bruno! I have the tiles from last week and the week before but completely forgot to send them in. This week’s string was reminiscent of Easter Eggs and included 3 awesome tangles. The Zentangle ® Original tangle Zenith, Sarah Fowler’s new tangle, Safflower, and Wavelin by Cyndi Knapp. Here’s my tile from this week and after, my IAST 235 tile. I’ve been a fan of Debra’s art for some time. She seems to hide in the background but when she posts, its always stunning. She has an innate ability that brings out the grace in patterns and finds organic ways to combine them that is, well, inspiring.

Here’s what Debra shared about herself, her art and the Zentangle ® Method.
“Hi, my name is Debra Huff. I can overcome my fear and call myself an artist.
I stumbled on Zentangle about two years ago. I have an auto-immune disease that affects my lungs, heart and other systems. I had a sudden decline with my heart and felt a driving need to find something new I could learn and grow with as well as reduce stress while living with very limited activity.
I came across an article in Psychology Today about meditative drawing called Zentangle. I googled the word and saw images that reminded me of childhood squiggle drawings that I would fill in with shapes and patterns. I read everything I could find online about Zentangle, bought a multi media journal and began drawing.
I found Zentangle Facebook groups and challenges. I lurked trying the challenges and filling pages. It took a lot of courage for the first posting, but there was such a positive response I continued.
The lessons, feedback and suggestions on Eni Oken’s Shading group spurred my growth and ignited my passion to learn more and more.
The community/world connection was started with Stephanie Jennifer‘s Traveling Tangle Project. I couldn’t get enough of holding this beautiful start from someone halfway across the world, that was made just for me.
Each group I am part of holds that special community. There is compassion, connection and love that fosters hope in the craziness of today’s world through the Zentangle meditative art.”

I chose Debra this week for a couple of reasons. First, of course, her artwork is incredible. To know she’s been drawing for just 2 years means there may still be hope for myself and others who struggle with calling ourselves artists. The second reason is that she mirrors the struggle that I, and so many other new artists, have in trying to appreciate and share their own art and ideas. She is as supportive and compassionate to others as they are to her. After all, we all share this journey. Some are more successful than others, that’s true, but the real lessons and values found in the Zentangle® Method aren’t really about art at all. They’re different for each person, as we each gain something intensely personal from Zentangle®. As different as we all are, this shared journey is cherished by all of us. It’s what makes this community so special.
